Will Ferrell Leads PayPal’s Largest US Ad Campaign Ever

What do Will Ferrell, Fleetwood Mac, and PayPal have in common? They’ve all teamed up to promote PayPal in the company’s largest advertising effort to date across the US.

To the tune of Fleetwood Mac’s “I Want to Be With You Everywhere,” Will Ferrell discovers the convenience of using PayPal for both in-store and online purchases, while he proceeds to sing “I want to pay with you everywhere” in a variety of humorous purchasing scenarios. Scenes include clothing stores, restaurants, and even a neighborhood lemonade stand.

The ad spot also highlights the joy of PayPal’s five percent cash-back perk each month in a category of the user’s choice.

The online payment company kicked off its new campaign September 9th to a national audience watching the New York Jets vs. San Francisco 49ers NFL game. The ad spot will continue to air through the end of the calendar year.

To bolster the effort, PayPal has a new look and leans into media that will include OOH, digital, streaming, radio, podcasts, influencers, and social throughout the campaign.

PayPal hopes the 60-second ad will emphasize the convenience and simplicity of the payment service in answer to the buy-now-pay-later services like Apple Pay that are growing in popularity.

Advertisers also hope to show how using PayPal is more rewarding than other services with its cash-back offerings, according to the company’s CMO, Geoff Seeley.

“This points to the exciting direction we’re heading in as we continue to evolve PayPal into an easy, safe, and rewarding way to shop everywhere,” Seeley said.

PayPal has been seeking to widen its revenue stream, and at the beginning of 2024 announced plans to reduce its workforce by nine percent. The service has nearly 400 million active accounts.
