Why Mothers are Writing the Future of Search
It’s a brave new world with large language models soon to dominate the landscape. Traditional search methods will no longer be relevant. Marketers who want to show up in this new space are looking in an unusual place for guidance – mom influencers.
Today’s mothers have changed the way they look for information online. They’re savvier. They no longer type in one or two key words and wade through a dozen articles to find their answer. They ask specific questions and want real, not generic or manufactured, answers provided in an easy to access format.
“Who speaks that language best? Others moms,” says Maria Bailey of Marketing Insider. “That’s why influencers — specifically, mom creators and bloggers — are now a critical part of the AI-driven search landscape. Their content naturally mirrors the way consumers phrase their questions.”
Large language models are trained to respond with helpful insights that closely resemble human conversation. But the algorithms many marketers are still writing are more effective with traditional search methods, not geared for what the large language models of today’s AI tools will pick up.
That’s where mom influencers come into play. They write content that naturally reflects the authenticity, explanatory answers, and conversational style that LLM’s search for. And it’s getting results.
Consider one recent toy campaign where no less than 25 percent of the blog content that appeared in AI generated search previews was written by mom influencers. This didn’t happen because of SEO, but because it was written for people.
“When I speak to brand managers about influencer ROI, I often challenge them to look beyond the typical performance metrics,” says Bailey. “Views and clicks are easy to track, but the real power of influencer content today lies in its ability to appear in LLM-powered search results.” She explained how the same post that drives engagement on Instagram can also answer a parent’s question in an AI query six months later.
Bailey says the best performing content today is found in blog posts with personal anecdotes, reels that demo products in real homes, and YouTube videos with unscripted reviews. She notes that even comment sections matter in ranking among LLM searches.
Times are a’changing and so must marketers’ strategy, if brands want to remain relevant in an LLM-dominated landscape. How can marketers learn to think more like moms? Keep reading here.
